🚗 Getting Around the Upper Florida Keys

Getting around the Florida Keys is part of the adventure! Stretching along a single scenic highway—US-1 (Overseas Highway)—almost everything is referenced by Mile Markers (MM). Key Largo begins around MM 106, and Islamorada runs down to about MM 72. You’ll see “MM” used in business listings, road signs, and directions—it’s the Keys' version of a street address.

Because destinations are spread out and public transportation is limited, renting a car is highly recommended. It’s the best way to explore beaches, attractions, restaurants, and hidden gems on your own schedule.
